It turns out that in general people don't know anything at all about real beer. They only know beers that are sold in shops. They have no idea what they are made of, knowing only, that they contain hop - but it is only the tip of the iceberg. There are few people interested in beer production, but true beer lovers, through scent, flavor and color, can feel what beer is made of and what it contains. I found this out myself.
Since June 2014 I have a part time work in a small brewery, which had it's second anniversary on February 7th. Because of that i learned about beer quite a lot. The brewery is located in my place of living, which is a small village where you can't even find a shop. Nobody expected that it will hold on for a year, oh wait... nobody expected it would work at all. But i will not do any advertisements, because I am not here to do it. I am here to show, that my life is all about beer now - and to end up, I wrote engineering diploma work about beer market in Poland.
The beginnings were hard. When Ii tasted beer made by my superiors, it tasted terrible. It was bitter and tasted completely different than beer I had drunk before. Through time, when I tried these beers more, they started to taste good, even the most bitter ones. Right now, when I drink shop beer, I can feel that it is almost just water. Therefore I strongly encourage - if you have a craft brewery somewhere near, go there if possible and spent a few złoty for beer, that is really worth investing in!
I memorized one situation, when I was at work. A man with his son came to us, and I served them small cups, so they could taste all types of beer. If memory serves right, we had five different kinds of beer back then. I like their names very much which I had no idea of their existence before:
- bitter, amber
- AIPA DARK
- dark and very bitter
- AMBER LAGER
- amber, delicate - delight ;)
- DUNKEL, AMERICAN BROW ALE, PILSNER and others.
But back to the topic. I poured them those beers to taste, and first time in my career I met with this, that they, just like wine connoisseurs, swung that cups and checked color, flavor, scent. That was really beautiful for someone like me. For someone who found onself in a world of beer.
